Additionally, alerts may provide information about the severity of the incident and provide recommended measures to address it.

An effective IT alerting system must have the capability to integrate with various monitoring systems and other sources, like ITSM, that provide 24/7 surveillance of IT infrastructure to ensure everything functions as expected. It should also be able to retain detailed data about incidents or systems and analyze it quickly for better decision-making.

Multi-Channel Notification. Multiple channels like email, SMS, mobile apps, or other communication platforms guarantee that specialists won't miss potential incidents. So, the more channels are provided by the IT alerting tool, the lower the chances that an issue will be overlooked. Mobile accessibility is also an important aspect here.

On-call Planning and Escalation Procedures. IT alerting system should include on-call management functionality and escalation procedures to ensure that the right personnel promptly addresses critical alerts. Escalation refers to the process of transferring an issue or problem to higher levels of expertise or authority when it cannot be resolved at the current level. This process is crucial for efficiently managing incidents that are too complex or severe for initial responders. 

Escalation delay. Sometimes, alerts may resolve automatically within a short period. Delaying the alert can help to reduce alarm fatigue.
